How to Take Care of Prom Dresses

Prom Dresses are delicate and often expensive items of clothing so once you’ve bought yours you’ll want to do everything you can to take care of it. There are a number of tips and tricks to ensure that your prom gown is kept in the best possible condition. So with just a little forethought and effort you can take the best care of your prom dress before, during and after your prom.

Before your prom

Before your prom you need to take steps to prevent any creases or damage occurring to your gown. Most reputable prom dress retailers will provide complimentary garment bags with their prom dresses. Failing that you can purchase garment bags from supermarkets and many online retailers.

First, hang your dress inside a garment bag. You will need to hang it somewhere high enough so that the skirt isn’t touching the floor (or is only just touching). The place you hang it needs to ideally be a closed space such as a wardrobe. You should make sure that the place you choose to hang your prom dress isn’t damp and doesn’t get exposed to smells (e.g cooking smells).

You may be tempted to try your dress on a few times but try to resist for two reasons. Firstly, prom dresses are very delicate items and the more you take them on and off, the greater the risk that beading will become lose and even fall of. Secondly, the longer you have your dress out of its garment bag, the greater the chance is that it will become damaged by a tear or spill. By all means do a trial run with all your shoes and accessories, just don’t sit/walk around in your dress afterward! Thirdly, if you’ve worn your dress too many times then by the time prom comes around it won’t feel as special.

Should your prom dress become creased before your prom, you can always seek the advice of a professional dry cleaner.

When you’re getting ready

When it comes to prom night, if you put your dress on first you risk accidentally marking your dress with product. Apply your make up and style your hair before you put your dress on. You should be especially careful with body lotions and temporary bronzers as these can transfer from your skin and cause marks to appear on prom dresses.

If you’re wearing perfume then exercise caution. Many of the beads and crystals on prom dresses could be tarnished if they get perfume on them. As such, perfume should be applied when you’re still in your underwear. Spray two squirts in front of you at chest height and then walk through it. Read the rest of this entry »

How To Add Color To Your Little Black Dress

Ask any woman and she will most definitely tell you that her very favorite thing to wear is a little black dress. The little black dress, or LBD, is the most favorite item of clothing amongst women, and for good reason too.

It’s comfortable and forgiving to the figure, meaning it can help hide any bumps, and everyone knows black is slimming! Plus it is also very versatile. It can be worn to work, to an evening do, or even to a casual day out with friends. All you need to do is wear different accessories, to create different looks.

But every now and then you would want to add a touch of color to your little black dress. So how can you do that? Here are a few simple, yet effective ways, how you can add color to your little black dress.

Wear Striking Jewelry
Although obvious, I see a lot of women simply opting to wear something delicate like pearls with their little black dress. Be more adventurous! Choose a chunky necklace for example, in a bold color, or set of colors actually. This is the easiest way how you can add color to your LBD outfit, and it will also show off your stylish flair. If you are not a necklace kind of gal, then you can opt for big bold earrings instead, or a chunky bracelet. These will do the trick too!

Wear Colorful Shoes
Not everyone like experimenting with bold shoes, but this is one of the best ways how you can add color to your outfit when wearing a little black dress. Choose a pair of pink or red shoes for example; or you can also opt for something in an unusual print, or animal print for a more striking look.

Belt It Up
Why not wear a belt? Belts are very popular right now, and besides helping to cinch in your waist further, they can also be the perfect accessory to add a touch of color. You can choose any style of belt, whether thin or with, with a bold buckle or without. Though what I definitely suggest it opting for a colorful belt of course. Think on the lines of deep red or bold blue. This idea will definitely show off your fashionista style.

Hat’s Off
Now if you want to create a chic and ultra sophisticated look, why not wear a lovely and colorful belt with your little black dress? You can opt for something big and wide if you have a morning event to attend, or perhaps you’re going to the races. If you’re attending a wedding for example, you can choose something more delicate like a colorful fascinator with birdcage veil. Now that’s ultra chic! Read the rest of this entry »
